FENDI FALL 2011 PREVIEW : ABIT OF A THROWBACK

While paging through the handbags from Fendi Fall 2011, I kept waiting for the brand’s trump card. For the bag that would pull the whole thing together and make me sit up and pay attention. And while there are some very attractive options from the collection, unfortunately that bag never came. Perhaps after Spring 2011′s stellar lineup of Fendi accessories, I was expecting too much.
Fall continues some of the biggest hits from that line, including the ladylike multicolor satchels with crocodile flaps, and it also introduces several more multicolor options in the form of slouchy totes and shoulder bags with elongated straps. Some of these asymmetrically shaded designs work better than others, and I hope to see them hit retail in bright combinations as well as the neutrals seen here. For now, my collection winner in the blue patent shoulder bag that you see above.



GUCCI GOES GREEN WITH ITS NEW RANGE OF ECO-SUNGLASSES

While some designers are more keen to encourage the world of fashion into burning out their lungs, others are more concerned about the environment we live in. Gucci will unveil a new range of optical frames made using sustainable materials. They have joined hands with eyewear manufacturer Safilo and will launch four models in the brand’s green and red hues. These glasses are an alternative to the petroleum-derived plastic. In August, two sunglasses made of bio-based material synthesized from castor seeds will also be launched.

 Everyone loves Louis Vuitton – who doesn’t? And the brand has reasons to be admired by billions around the world because it is always surprising its fans. This little stunt at the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, California, for instance. Customers flocking into this complex were awe struck with the kind of thought, creativity and brilliance of its theme. Dripping golden honey bursts with golden bees and the Louis Vuitton logo like sun rays. The display featured a product with this set-up around it as though it glowed, quite literally! Bags, scarves, belts – you name it! It attracted mall-goers like bees to honey. Oh well, that was the point!




VALENTINO'S GLAM TOTE SHIMMERS IN FLORAL

Looks like floral trends in fashion is not going anywhere, any place soon. We have seen it on possibly everything from headbands to handbags. In keeping up with this trend, is Valentino’s Glam tote. Made of sand napa leather, this chic tote has silver color hardware and has been “glammed” up to the maximum. Valentino design’s philosophy of feminine elegance is thoroughly visible, as the tote is completely adorned with small flowers and large sequined roses with bead details. LARGEST LOUIS VUITTON BAG WILL BE PULLED DOWN IN SHANGHAI

Now you see it…now you don’t! Ok I am not pulling a Chris Angel on you, I am just talking about an advertising hoarding that went horribly wrong for Louis Vuitton at their Shanghai store. They decided to put up a huge, life-size Louis Vuitton bag that decorated the main facade of the store, and hid the renovation that is going on behind. The 20 meters high and 4 meters wide monogram canvas style however was asked to be demolished. Why, you ask? Shanghai laws believe otherwise as they have directed the structure to be pulled down. Advertisement hoardings in the city cannot exceed the 9 meter length and half meter thickness barrier. Being a hazard to pedestrians who take the sidewalk, the move will happen very soon. Oh well, it sure was soothing to the eyes. Too bad we have to see it go.
