ALEXANDER WANG'S RESORT 2012 SHOES ARE ANGULAR,EXCELLENT

Looking at the first few pictures of Alexander Wang Resort 2012 Footwear, the phrase that came to mind was “baby Balenciaga.” The futuristic, multicolored high heeled sandals definitely owe a bit of inspiration to Nicholas Ghesquiere’s work with shoes in recent years, and that’s a compliment – those shoes were excellent and iconic, and there is absolutely much inspiration to be had from them.

The rest of Wang’s collection isn’t quite so lust-worthy, but every group of shoes will have its stars. I’d toss out the barely-gussied-up pair of red-laced neo-New Balances, but other than that, this is a solid group of shoes that indicates Wang’s footwear might be headed in an exciting direction .

After giving us the Signature Cobra and Signature Dragon, Vertu Pink Diamond Signature Vertu is out with a brand new haute couture smartphone tagged Signature precious that draws its inspiration from "Grand Complication timepieces and the finest jewelry". Hand crafted by Joanne Cameron, her signature can be spotted beneath the battery. The bejeweled phone sports front keys set in sapphire that have been carved with the help of diamond-tipped tools. The phone also comes with a patented keypad that features 4.75 carat ruby bearings set in such a way, so that the sapphire keys don’t run against them, giving you a smooth motion to the use the phone. So much is the opulence of this piece that even the SIM card tray is cast in either gold or platinum as you like it.

THE REST OF CHANEL PARIS-BYZANCE IS PRETTY OUTSTANDING AS WELL

Even though Chanel is a brand with a rich history and plenty of iconic aesthetic elements from which to draw, I think we all get fatigued of flap bags and black and ivory color schemes after a while. Because Karl Lagerfeld is a man worth his enormous paycheck, he seems to be able to sense that feeling within his client base and zig when everyone expects him to zag, which has lead to a freshness and creativity in the past several Chanel collections that continues to delight me.

On Friday, we introduced you to the Outstanding Pieces range from Chanel Paris-Byzance Pre-Fall 2011. Today, we’ve got the regular line of handbags, which are pretty great themselves. There’s a lot of “Chanel” in these bags, more so than in the Outstanding Pieces, and certainly some of them are bread-and-butter sales leaders. But the change in tone that they, along with the bags from the two preceding seasons, represent is a smart and welcome one, even if it’s subtle.

MATTIA CIELO - NEW COLLECTIONS AND NEW BOUTIQUE

After a successful Couture show, where Mattia Cielo presented its new collections to the industry and the media, the Italian brand is now opening a new boutique in Milan’s Via Montenapoleone, the city’s prestigious jewellery and shopping street.

This investment will allow the brand to enter the Italian market, while maintaining its cosmopolitan profile.

The boutique is expected to attract luxury shoppers from around the world; and it will be a 120-square-metre two storey shop where clients will be introduced to the collections and to special services.
