FLOPPY 70'S STYLE HATS MANIA

There have been fans of floppy hat for as long women have wanted to shade themselves from the sun. But over the years the style has grown out from its roots as the hat of choice for lounging by the pool and digging in the back yard garden. Because although that style of floppy hat - with its open weave leaving a cute sunshine freckle pattern on the face or dropping down so far that the hat frames the face with fabric- is still popular, it is the winter version of the floppy hat
that is in fashion now.

Thanks in no small part to Jennifer Lopez and her pairing of floppy hast with her Roberto Cavalli creations and the stylist Rachel Zoe who hasn't met a floppy hat she doesn't like, the thick felt and wool hats have become a favorite accessory for Hollywood starlets who wear the hats as easily for a trip to the store as a trip down the red carpet.

It has now become a practical year round fashion choice that can protect the wearer from both the summer sun and the winter rain. But floppy hats do have an Achilles heel- the wind. On those windy days, convertible rides and biking tours might I be so bold as to suggest a Hermés scarf?
