Looking at the first few pictures of Alexander Wang Resort 2012 Footwear, the phrase that came to mind was “baby Balenciaga.” The futuristic, multicolored high heeled sandals definitely owe a bit of inspiration to Nicholas Ghesquiere’s work with shoes in recent years, and that’s a compliment – those shoes were excellent and iconic, and there is absolutely much inspiration to be had from them.
The rest of Wang’s collection isn’t quite so lust-worthy, but every group of shoes will have its stars. I’d toss out the barely-gussied-up pair of red-laced neo-New Balances, but other than that, this is a solid group of shoes that indicates Wang’s footwear might be headed in an exciting direction .
